Re: Stopped for Open Carrying in California
There are some fairly specific rules about how to do this legally, so if you're even remotely considering trying it, read up first! I have a friend in the LA County Sheriff's department who had been briefed on this 'phenomenon' and explained to me what his department told him. The biggest issue ...

Re: Qwik Grip Tire Chains
One pair (two tires). These do not look to be ever used... I got them as part of a trade and I have never used them. All parts seem to be there. A very quick search puts these in the $90.00 price range for new. How about $40.00 with local pickup? Of course offers welcome. http://traveltoad.smugmug ...

Re: Walther P22 and Kimber Pro Carry II
I see what you mean, but for the young or the fairer sex, the lower recoil and the lesser blast of a .22 makes it a good first step in the learn-to-shoot process compared to most "full sized" calibers. Plus, particularly with today's prices, shooting a .22 is always cheaper than anything else ...

Re: Walther P22 and Kimber Pro Carry II
The P22 and the P99 are *close* but not exactly the same feel in your hand due to the noticeably heavier weight and larger frame/grip on the P99. I strongly suspect you'll like the P99 if you liked the way the P22 felt (and I agree - it's a well-designed pistol). The other nice feature of the P22 is ...

Sorry to hear about the break-in and stolen laptop - that sucks! :( Great trip report - looks like a nice place to be! With the 400 miles off-pavement I'm sure you were pleased with the expanded fuel capacity you added to your rig. What was your tank reading when you finally got to a gas station at ...

Re: Best way to mount a HAM radio antenna
A question arose as I was thinking about this - if I were to install a piece of sheet metal on the roof rack deck and ground that to the truck's chassis, would that be a way of creating the ground plane that a hard top vehicle's roof offers?
thanks, Everyone!

I'll be very interested to see how one goes about cleaning/re-building a winch like that. Steam clean? Brake cleaner? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for sharing the trip report and pictures - good stuff! Saw some of the same kind of bloom in Joshua Tree NP (on foot, of course) a couple of weeks ago. My first thought on seeing the Mustang was, "Four wheels and freedom" - it's shocking at times where people choose to go in their vehicles ...
