Re: Bear-Proof Food Storage
Gents, Thanks for the replies. I had major email server issues at work and ended up so busy Friday before leaving that I didn't get a chance to check this thread! The bearvault is the one we used for backpacking... it's a pretty good design, although that ursack is cool. For car camping, we pretty ...

Bear-Proof Food Storage
Hey OAUSA-ers, My brother and I are heading up to Sequoia National Forest this weekend for some offroading, fishing, and backpacking. We’re car camping for a couple nights, then backpacking, then car camping again. I know bears are a concern in the area and we’re covered with a bear canister for bac ...

Re: 2 meter SSB?
I ended up getting a small rotor and a vhf/uhf yaggi mounted in my backyard. Want to sked something to see if I can get my signal up there?

Re: 2 meter SSB?
Thanks for the information on SSB nets. I was thinking about getting Cushcraft's 3-element dual-band beam and mounting horizontally on a TV antenna rotator. I should be able to get the antenna up about 23 feet or so... think that'll get my signal out very far?

Veterans Day
I just want to wish OAUSA members who served in our country's military a very happy Veteran's Day. A big thanks to you all! http://www.stuckina.com/images/iraq_2003/capt.1047936140.kuwait_marines_iraq_topix_xits104.gif Edit - This one might be a little more in line with the forum: http://www ...

Re: 2 meter SSB?
Hey Ollie, I remember someone saying that there's an SSB net on 2 meters out of Santa Barbara, but I haven't been able to find more info about that. I'm not even sure that I would be able to hit Santa Barbara with the 50W that the 857 puts out on 2m. I don't recall if we rapped about my 857 or not ...

2 meter SSB?
Anyone know if there's much 2m or 70cm single sideband activity in Southern California/Western Arizona? I don't have the time to study for the general (it's a long-term goal) and I'm renting, so can't put up a mast over 25 feet anyway. My Yaesu 857 will work all modes and thought this might be ...

Re: 2008 BorregoFest Low Light/Night Pics
You can actually see a constellation in the shot of the campsite! The Pinyon Myn Valley photo is cool too. How'd you get those in such low light? Wasn't that sunset on the ride home last Sunday killer? It looked like there were vapor trails or something out on the horizon. I was in awe every time it ...

Re: BorregoFest Pictures
Hey DaveK, were you camping up in Pinyon Mtn Valley? Excellent eye. Yes. I can't take all the credit. Over the weekend Ollie mentioned that somebody had camped up near The Squeeze and we chatted about it a bit. It is great up there, isn't it? I think that's the best spot in ABDSP for early fall and ...
