Re: FJ Cruiser or Xterra?
Actually I'm doing a trip to Zion, Toroweap, and North Rim of Grand Canyon those dates. Will have a HF rig with me if that works.

Re: FJ Cruiser or Xterra?
The front differential on the Xterra is a known weak point. It hasn't failed me yet though. I had a relay fail me on the freeway and cause me to stall. Luckily, I was close to the shoulder and was able to get off the road without getting hit. I ended up taking a window washer relay and putting it in ...

Re: FJ Cruiser or Xterra?
I have had the 2nd gen Xterra 4x4 OR since 2005. Its a love hate relationship. My next vehicle will be a Toyota Tacoma or 4runner. Do yourself a favor and get the FJ. Aftermarket and resale value are much better.

Re: Baker-to-Vegas - MojaveRATS ARC Final Call
I usually run Baker To Vegas every year. Not this year due to knee surgery. A good time. Even more fun when the weather goes bad in the higher elevations between Pahrump and Las Vegas.
It's neat seeing all the ham stations set up in the middle of nowhere.

I'll try to make it with my Jeep. I've got a Toughbook mounted in it now with APRS.
Hopefully, gas prices stay somewhat stable during that time. I'm on vacation that month and it will be good for me to visit relatives down there.

I read on the VX8R groups that you can have your radio upgraded for 65 dollars via Yaesu + 3 weeks or longer turnaround time.
Re: AR Parts
SSC, The DD rail is a good rail system. I'm looking at getting one of their 308 rails for a CA-Legal 308 AR I plan to build. I'm looking at GA Precision to build me a precision upper. I currently run a Knight's Armament M4 RAS on my work rifle and it has held up pretty well. For the distances I have ...

Re: Trolgar-The Ballistic Protection Shield
Nice blasters. You can never be too careful, I guess. I tend to call them negligent discharges myself unless there was a defect or malfunction that caused the gun to discharge. Those that carry firearms daily, myself included, can become complacent and have an ND. Knock on wood that in 6 years in ...
