Re: CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
I heard the same thing about the signs being gone. I have this thread running on Pirate4x4 and someone posted up an email from Supervising ranger Paul Reisman. Here is the parks official position The official park position. I have to commend Mr. Reisman for his prompt response. Thank you. Michael ...

I think that is the closest ranger station to the fish creek area. Usually on weekends all the actual rangers are out on patrol and the person at the station is just a guest relations type park service worker. See what you can do though. Thanks.

Re: CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
Also, there's really no wilderness boundary with the park, you just have to say on the designated routes. Although, you could think of the whole park as a wilderness area with roads and trails that you can access into it. Did you call this morning. My ranger said he overheard another ranger talking ...

Re: CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
Ok here's a small update from today. I called the main ranger station (760-767-5311) and talked to "Ranger Bob". He was very friendly but did not really have any clear info to give me. He told me that the most likely cause of the new signs and stakes was that the dead end canyon eventually ended up ...

Re: CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
Well put. Thank you.
I plan on trying to contact someone at the ranger station to see if I can get any clear info on this. If anyone else wants to do this as well please go ahead. I think it would be good for more people to show genuine interest.

Re: CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
Who's Nancy? Is she at park HQ's. I bet your right about the reasons. I know there are several rangers very unfriendly to 4wheelers. If you get a couple hikers who kick up a stink about nasty wheelers, I'm sure that would be reason for them to close a trail or area. I'm always polite and friendly to ...

CA - Sandstone Canyon closed - Help!! Anza Borrego
This past weekend (10-25-08) I did some camping in the Fish Creek area of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. This is a beautiful wash/slot canyon with many opportunities for camping. Hiking, climbing and wheeling. I know many of you, especially So-Cal have at one time or another wheeled in Fish creek ...
