Re: APRS for 2012
Hey guys, Sorry I never posted an update!!! Two bad usb-serial adapters later and I did get my prototype system operational. I even took it for a few off road trips to get an idea of how well the beacons worked while off-road. Found I did not like Xastir's version of smart beaconing. Even down the ...
Re: CCW Works
YES CCW works! Florida passed "shall Issue" CCW laws more than 25 years ago (one of the first states to do so). Most crooks have learned (the hard way) to leave the locals alone because they are probably armed (hence crimes against foreign tourists spiked in the years following CCW passage). You ...

APRS for 2012
Hey guys, just a quick update. My system built ok. Took a week for the PCMCIA serial card to arrive. Will not key the radio or receive packets. Not sure if hardware or software, but after 4 hours of run time the PCMCIA card started to warp from the heat! Done with the Baycom adapter. Ordering an ...

Re: First Aid Kit
Well said Tom.
I had a much longer reply and you summed it up very well.
Can't stress quality training wins over a huge medical kit every time.

Re: 2012-06-21 APRS Setup and Operation
I hope someone posts a "podcast" of this topic. It is one I am very interested in hearing, but I am still out of the country (last one posted is from Feb 2012).

Re: APRS for 2012
Dave, Thanks for the informative reply. You confirmed some of what I suspected. The fact that not a single other person has commented also tells me much about the future of this system and technology. As long as all it is being used for is a beacon of GPS location, it will die away as worthless. It ...

Another new Member from San Diego
Greetings! Thanks to the wonders of Google I was able to find your forum and site. Larry Schultz. N4TKS. Live in San Diego. I have been a Ham operator for more than 20 years. Purchased my first truck in 1993 and enjoyed some off road, but it was not until 2002 when I purchased my F-250 4x4 that I ...

APRS for 2012
Been doing a lot of research of late about APRS and its uses. MOST of the articles and web postings (including this forum) are 2-10 years old. What is APRS being used for in the current era? If I spend the time and money to add APRS to my vehicle, what practical application am I adding to Ham Radio ...
