This is Clifford

Post by dzJeepchic » Tue Jan 25, 2011 6:55 pm

My husband George bought this '92 XJ for me almost a year ago, in fact is was in February 2010, so it was my Valentine present. I know it's weird that I named him, but I swear that the day we went to look at him and I put my hands on the stinger and looked back at him he said to me "I'm Clifford".

At the time we owned a '96 Cherokee that George had fixed up and it ran well and was a great vehicle. But we were at a cross roads where $1,000s were needed to get it where we wanted it so it could get us where we wanted to go. When this Jeep came on the market it wasn't hard to do the math, so we sold the '96 and bought it. The big appeal was all the after market mods: interior/exterior cage, lift, axles, gears, winch, etc.

George literally worked on the rig for months before he would even take it out. It had been fairly abused so a lot of work needed to be done. We kept an ongoing picture log and build thread, which you may see here:

Clifford is finally getting where we want him to be. In October we took him on a trip to the Canyonlands Maze District and it rained everyday, but we were able to sleep inside, which was the reason I wanted an XJ in the first place.

Ah, I didn't notice that the tarp extends out towards the camera with a pole holding it up...

It was great watching Clifford work the rocks out here at Corral Canyon. Great build thread!
