FIELD DAY Why Should I do Field Day, How to Prepare, How Do I get More Info, What Do I need, etc.

Field Day is less than two weeks away. If you believe in preparing for emergencies or disasters, if you are a member of an emergency prep group, or just want to expand your communications skills, then a visit to a Field Day operation should be on your to-do list.

Our net this week will be on the various benefits of Field Day and how you can participate. Our guest will be Chip Margelli, K7JA. For those fortunate enough to hear his presentations on Ham radio topics, you know the great information that he offers. Chip has some excellent information on Field Day and will be answering any questions that come up.

I am ready to do some camping this year and change things up from the local Riverside club. I will miss their activities but I am looking forward to seeing the OAUSA version of the same. I'm sure there will be plenty to learn, eat and experience.

A recent trip camping provided the opportunity to try out a very basic remote setup compared to the usual SKB go box and this was only VHF/UHF on backup battery power.

I really do enjoy testing my gear out in the simplest of ways. There is nothing special about this setup and the 12 AH battery was pretty well taxed with the airing up of a queen size mattress and charging a phone. It gave me a better idea about the duty cycle of the battery.
