OTHER EDGED IMPLEMENTS
Knives are not the entirety of edged implements. If you spend time in the outdoors, camping, hunting, or just working on the cabin, there are other tools with edges that require your attention, In this category, there is not the vast selection of metals as there are with knives, nor are the cutting edge angles as varied. And, for the most part, the jobs that these implements are expected to perform, are quite different from knives.
This category consists of mostly axes, hatchets, machetes, and shovels. Every one of them will perform better when properly sharpened. While it is true that sharpening is still sharpening, the methods for keeping this group in tip top shape will require different tools, and the technique will be somewhat different. The cutting edge for a knife is clearly not the same as required by an axe or hatchet.
Sharpening and maintenance techniques for this group are covered in great detail in various articles and videos, all of which are accessible on the internet. Unlike knives, it is not necessary to be an engineer or a metallurgist in order to select the right steel for your machete, axe, shovel, saw, or hatchet. While there may be some options for steel, your selection is very limited.
Sharpening techniques are pretty much all the same for this group. Here are some examples of tools that fall into this category, all of which are of exceptional quality, and all of which should be part of your outdoor gear, or permanently mounted in your vehicle.
