OAUSA Net – May 13, 2021 – Ham Antenna Types
This week the net is on Antenna types.
This weeks’ Outdoor Adventure Net will focus on different antenna types for use in Amateur Radio. We will focus on mobile and portable operating.
We will discuss antennas for VHF and UHF in the 2 Meter and 70 Cm Ham Radio bands and expand into Dipoles, Verticals, and portable antennas for exercising your HF privileges on the 28 MHz and below.
Solar cycle 25 is beginning to pick up steam and some expect it to be one of the most spectacular of the last few cycles. Time will tell.

Books for ideas on great outdoor cooking and cooking outdoor style at home.
Kent and Shannon Rollins have a couple of books out that provide an outstanding source of ideas and recipes for outdoor cooking.
About Kent and Shannon
https://kentrollins.com/about/
Kent was born and raised along the banks of the Red River near Hollis, Oklahoma. Growing up, and throughout his adulthood, Kent helped his father manage cow/calf operations in the area while also taking care of their own herd.
At the beginning of Kent's cooking career, he spent time with his uncle guiding and feeding hunters deep in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. From there he bought a chuck wagon in 1993 and began cooking for ranches and soon expanded into catering. Because of Kent's growing popularity and his preservation of a historic way of life, the governor of Oklahoma proclaimed Kent the Official Chuck Wagon of Oklahoma in 1996.
Kent has since made numerous television appearances including the Food Network's highly rated shows, Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, where he beat Flay with his chicken fried steak, Chopped Grill Masters, Chopped Redemption and Cutthroat Kitchen champion He also holds an undefeated record on NBC’s Food Fighters and was featured on CBS Sunday Morning.
Along with slinging hash, Kent has also become pretty good at slinging bull. Kent travels the country to western heritage festivals to tell his tales. Kent's talent has earned him the Best Cowboy Humorist and Storyteller of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists.
Kent's ability to not only cook but to transport folks to another time through vivid stories of cow camps and the cowboy life is yet another way that he is a truly unique character. Along with the stage and the trail, Kent’s food and stories can be experienced each month in Western Horseman magazine where he and Shannon contribute a column and recipe.
Kent and his wife, Shannon, continue to travel the country feeding hungry folks and those intrigued by their distinct and historic way of life. However, more importantly, Kent carries on the legacy of cooking for cowboys on ranches during spring and fall gatherings, a rare tradition few follow.
Kent and Shannon released their first cookbook, A Taste of Cowboy, in April 2015. It became the #2 best-selling book on Amazon and is listed in the "Top 100 Cookbooks To Own in a Lifetime."

Relay Station covering 8800 sq miles 2 meters 220 MHz HF on an end fed dipole
Another relay station on the 8800 sq mile operation using a part of a vertical loop dipole array. This was a portable repeater setup on a mountain top Big Signal from a small radio directional vertical yagi or Yagi-Uda antenna, Be sure to mind your polarization. This is how you feed a big yagi antenna without tearing up your antenna connector on your ht Two examples of a portable satellite station using a log periodic Elk Antenna (foreground) or a cross polarized dual band Arrow Antenna yagi antenna. Antenna damage due to snow and wind

Hopefully, this will help me decide on a HF antenna at my house. I cannot put ups tower or probably run it across the backyard, since I have power, cable, and telephone lines crossing over my backyard. The main electrical transformer is also on the pole in my back yard. I'll probably end up with some type of dipole running across my roof line. I also need to build a grounding system, I don't have grounded outlets in my almost 70 year old house. I was not a ham when I moved in.
