APRS Meeting Location, per Hector, as follows:

How about Panera Bread in Pasadena. It has food, tables, food, power, food, Wi-Fi. The parking lot is a little dark, but I think it would suit our needs. Did I mention it has food!

Sorry about that, Bruce. If we can get Skype running at the restaurant, maybe we can bring you in on the conversation. Not as good as being there, but acceptable. Let us know.

Hector/Frank:

For next weeks meeting, should we bring everything that we have at this point which we intend to use for APPS, i.e. laptop, gps, ham radio?

Should we pre-load any software that we will need? For example I have already loaded AGW Packet Engine, AGW Tracker, UIVIEW, and dmapper. Is there anything else. Unfortunately, I don't have the Signal link USB soundcard interface yet.

Is there anything else that we can do to prepare? Thanks guys.

I would say install what you have and we can look it over and see what will work for you.

There are so many variations of software and hardware, but it all used pretty much the same way.

I am certain there are programs and equipment out there that we have not tried, but together we can find out whether or not it would be a good product to use.

Hector -

I just found an old, never used, Kantronics KPC-3 TNC unit in my box of odds and ends. I probably purchased the unit 10+ years ago thinking about setting up a APRS station at home. Never did (still no VHF/UHF base unit), but I guess I saved the Kantronics stuff, including the cables / manuals it came with. Is this an obsolete unit, or is it of any use with a laptop and newer radios ? I can bring it on Wednesday if you think it can be of any use, but I'd rather pick up current equipment if it is really out of date.

I also have no idea what software to download / acquire for APRS, and was hoping you could shed some light on this at the meeting. If there is any I should know about in advance, please post it up...

Thanks for your assistance, and I'll see you all on Wednesday....
