For what it's worth; I have been trying different rails(railed handguards) on some of the AR's. The LaRue is very nice, but it is a one piece and the front sight, gas tube, comp/flashhider must be removed as well as the barrel nut. In speaking with people who seem to have tried many rails, I came down to the troy and the Daniels Defense. I wanted a two piece rail which would free float the barrel and be easy to install, yet very sturdy and straight, with a minimal profile. I wanted light weight and cooling properties. And yes I know, people in hell want ice water :D

In testing these rails the winner for me was clear--DD omega two piece. It takes less than 10 minutes to install. It is high quality and not cheap. It free floats the barrel and the lines are straight. Rock solid set up and a narrow light weight set up. It never got too hot and the cooling was satisfactory.

SSC,

The DD rail is a good rail system. I'm looking at getting one of their 308 rails for a CA-Legal 308 AR I plan to build. I'm looking at GA Precision to build me a precision upper.

I currently run a Knight's Armament M4 RAS on my work rifle and it has held up pretty well. For the distances I have to shoot in an urban environment, the free float wasn't a necessity for me.

I'm heading off to the Shot Show in a couple weeks... can hardly wait to see what's new out there.

I have a list of items to review at the shot show. A couple of 308 platforms are on my list.
