I have to scrub this run. I lost a half-shaft in my rig on the way home from work yesterday. Last night when I took it apart, I found the wheel bearing close to shot as well. So, with that being said, I still recommend taking your families up to Idyllwild to check out the area. Humber Park is always neat. There are photo ops up there galore. I was really looking forward to this. I never get my wife out there so I was hoping to start to get her hooked. I may just reschedule it for a few weeks down the road. I am so sorry for having to scrub this so close to the day.

Ollie,
Hope you get the rig back on the road/offroad soon. I look forward to the rescheduled run. We enjoy our time on the trail with you. I may take the family to Big Bear or Arrowhead this Sat.

Regards, Steve

Ollie, sorry to hear about your issues, you'll have to post up some details later. I'm so lost now I just don't know what to do! Might go to Julian for breakfast then hit Grapevine Canyon. I dunno...

Glad the half shaft went near home instead of out on the Mojave....It's an easy fix though and you will feel better knowing how to change it out. I use a short crowbar to pop the half shaft out of the diff, others use a slide hammer with a hose clamp to hold the end of the hammer onto the half shaft. The rebuild kit comes with two different types of grease, the heavier grade is for the inner boot/differential side. There are also different clamps for the inner and outer CV boots. I use narrow width hose clamps in place of the OEM CV boot clamps because of the special tools needed to properly tighten them down. Give me a call if you have any questions.

Hope you got everything fixed up on the truck.

Do you have a GPS track for any of the routes you were going to do for this? I've got an entire week at home next week (fingers crossed) and I was thinking of maybe taking a day off and running up there. Somewhere. Anywhere.

I beleive I do. It is a nice little loop type of drive. I'll try to dig them up and post them tonight.

Let me see if the boss will buy off on it. I just had a work trip pop up which will take me to Hartford, CT from Sunday through Friday. I need to see if she will be willing to take a trip the day after I get back. :?
