I want to improve the reception of the Yaesu VX-170 whilst I'm in the cab. Is everyone happy with the overall performance of this antenna?

What other adapters/cables might I need?

Yours truly,

Clueless

I think the K9000 is just the mount. You still need to buy the antenna seperately???

I run the diamond NR770HB most all the time, and switch to the comet SBB1 on the trail. The diamond has been pretty good so far, but I probably wouldn't get another one.

You can read tons of reviews on everything ham related at eham.net. Here's the page for the K9000

The mount comes with everything but the antenna. There is even an 1/8" thick (if that thick) coax included that is around 10ft long. The other item you will need if the small cable that allows you to attach the antenna to your VX-170. If you take a trip to HRO or Jun's and take the radio with you they will show you what is required. ;) As far as antennas go Comet or Diamond are very comparable in fit, function, and reliability IMO.

Thanks Ollie. Do you know of any reputable dealers in the OC area?

HRO (Ham Radio Outlet) in Anaheim is a very reputable Ham Radio store. Check out http://www.hamradio.com they have several stores all around.
