Rig something up to one of your trekking poles for the camera.
His girlfriend just got back from Belize so he wants to hang with her and we don't have that kinda gear for both of us anyhow. He would make us hurt too much anyway. I hope you'll be mellow and I can enjoy this hike and the scenary a little.
You're in better shape for this than I am.

I'll meet you at the Ranger Station at 6 am. When filling out the permit we need to remember that the region we're camping in is the North Rim.

Dude, I'm 51 and weigh 217. That's about 35lbs more than I should be, but I will admit I've got a whole month of training in now and I know how to hurt when necessary. I'm so psyched I think I might go up Friday after work and yellow post it. BTW-what the hell are we gonna do when it gets dark and no fire, I never go to bed before midnight much less 8:00 PM?

Welcome to the world of backpacking Scott. Early to bed early to rise. No fires unless there's a real emergency. I have to say that I can set on that rim looking out over that expanse for hours and not say a word. In that atmosphere with complete quiet, that's what it's all about. I think you'll be plenty entertained with that. I'd like to schedule some trips around full moons and do some summits under the full moon. THAT would be epic...

Looking forward to some R&R after we set up camp. Hot tea, Jetboiled marshmallows, and star watching. :D

The weather looks to be near perfect this coming weekend. It does not look like it will go below 50', don't think I'll be climbing into that bivy after all... :(

BTW, how were the bugs last time you camped at this spot?

Bugs weren't bad at camp because we got a good wind blowing up the face of the amphitheatre. I'm more concerned about dealing with the bugs at the water source. Remember how bad they were during the Tahquitz hike? :D I have a couple of bug head nets. I'll bring them.

John Muir......called the San Jacinto Peak Wilderness area.......the Yosemite of Southern California!

I wish I could find the link right now.

All I could find quick tonight is this quote....

Sierra Club Founder John Muir (1838-1914) scaled San Jacinto (1887), and exclaimed 'The view is the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth.'

I've been hiking the Devils Slide Trail since 1995.

Just go!

You will have the most Awesome time of your Life!

Carry On!... 8-)

It's a beautiful place you should come along. I met a guy on Baldy last week who was summiting for his 497th time. Been doing Baldy, San Gorgonio, Tahquitz and San Jancinto weekly since he was a young man.

Epic was an understatement. Fantastic weather, perfect camping spot and the view from the top of San Jacinto is awe inspiring.
