Just an FYI: Carveacre is really fun, but relatively short. With the price of gas, those from up north may be a little disappointed. If you wanted to make a weekend out of it, you could camp out somewhere and do Corral Canyon or Table Mtn/Elliot Mine or Oriflamme/Chariot Canyon the next day

Re: Carvacre then Otay run
True true. That's why I was thinking of adding Otay to the mix. We will run Carvacre first then Otay. If you don't want to run Otay then I would also suggest heading out to Oriflamme Canyon and Rodriguez.sdnative wrote:Just an FYI: Carveacre is really fun, but relatively short. Good suggestion Eric

I've been to Otay twice but never to Oriflamme/Chariot. So, my vote is for Oriflamme/Chariot after Carvacre. Of course, I'll go with what the majority decides.

Re: Carvacre then Otay run
There's also Mountain Springs stage coach trail, which is just east of Table Mtn. I can't even remember the last time I was there. However, it all depends on how hot it gets.
Re: Carvacre then Otay run
For a few trucks Carvacre is a fairly short run (a few hours). With a group it could very well take an entire day. The vehicles need to be, at a minimum, armored if not lifted and I know this is silly to mention but you better have a good spare tire. The trail is tore up and will give a fairly novice driver (and their passengers) a serious case of "SSS" (sphincter-seat-suction). For those with IFS, plan on spending a lot of time on three (sometimes two) wheels. We have yet to run the trail without carnage of some sort to one of our rigs. I've blown out a tail light. Frogeye tried wrapping his exhaust pipe around his rear axle, and sdnative sliced two tires at the same time.
This is truly one of the most interesting trails (technical-wise) in the south San Diego area. We love it.
