Cyanoacrylates( super glues)
1. Almost instant cure on most surfaces
2. Super glued don't bond glass
3. Uses latent moisture on parts to neutralize the acid stabilizer glue.
4. Cleaned parts must be allowed to regain humidity in the air for best bond. The easiest way to do this is to breath on the parts.
5. Require a very thin gap and bond line. Do not over apply the adhesive.
6. Creates a rigid joint with very high tensile strength.
7. Thicker adhesives are designed for porous surfaces.
8. You may use baking soda or powdered metals along with a very thin(low viscosity) glue as a filler. Makes a very hard, durable repair that may be drilled. Fillers huge gaps.
9. Repairs and bonds rubber weather strip, metals and plastics.

Gasket makers and Sealants
1. RTV silicones are particularly suited to sealing gaps up to 1/4". RTV( room temperature vulcanization) cures at room temperature with the aid of moisture in the air.
2. All manufacturers make multiple formulas, colors. Color is not a good indicator of type.
3. Acetoxy silicones smell like acetic acid(vinegar). Thetend to be corrosive while they are curing and can rust or corrode metal and electrical parts.
4. Oxime silicones smell like new tennis shoes and use a non corrosive alcohol cure.
5. Always look for, High Performance or Non Corrosive on the label. These types offer additional benefits and will work on oily surfaces.
6. Temperature rating can be over 1000*F.

- Left is alcohol cure RTV. Right is acid cure RTV. Which one will you use?

Anaerobic gasket maker
1. Designed for rigid flanges with minimum gap.
2. Cures on metalnparts. Can stress crack plastics.
3. Used extensively to seal water pumps on vehicles. May be used on any rigid, cast or machines part such as transmission, differential cover, etc. a special version is used to seal head bolts and water jackets instead of a thread locker.
4. The best gasket is no gasket at all. If you could machine parts perfectly flat and smooth, a gasket is not needed.

- Rigid flange with thin film of anaerobic gasket maker.

Reactive Adhesives and Tapes
1. Two part products that use water or other liquid as the catalyst
2. Attain structural strength very quick.
3. Rear view mirror and window defogger adhesives fall in this category.
4. Newer casting materials for everything from sealing water pipe leaks to broken arms use this same technology.
5. There is usually minimal working time and parts are often not repositionalble once mated together.

- Apply catalyst to one or both parts and let dry. Apply adhesive to one part and fixture for several minutes.

Reactive wraps
1. Always where gloves.
2. Prep surface to be repaired.
3. Apply epoxy to rebuild surface or seal hole.
4. Open package and place wrap in water.
5. Quickly apply in overlapping wraps and smooth out any bubbles.

- Various reactive tapes and wraps are available to make very strong, permanent repairs to outdoor equipment such as antenna masts or sledge hammers used to drive ground rods.

- Prep surface by sanding and blow off dust. Apply two part epoxy putty to damaged area or to fill a hole or leak.

- Place wrap in water for prescribed time and quickly apply to the desired area squeezing out any bubbles.

1. Designed to displace moisture in electrical fittings.
2. Allows for disassembly of parts when compared to RTV silicones.
3. Silicone based and non corrosive.
4. May be applied before or after assembly depending on the type of fitting.
5. Will seal spark plug boots but still allow for easy dissassembly for service or adjustment.
6. A thin coating should be applied to prevent insulating ring type terminals.

- Apply grease before inserting fuse.

- ATC fuse block exposed to moisture. Apply to terminals and assemble. Wiping style contacts will push away grease giving perfect metal to metal contact.
