Elastomers- Seam Sealers, RTV silicones & polyurethanes
Seam sealers are used in auto production and collision repair and offer these benefits:
1. Seal spot welded seams To prevent water intrusion, corrosion and vibration
2. Use to dampen the “flutter” that occurs in large, thin body panels
3. Used to tie the out skin to the substructure( door skin to frame )
4. Offers acoustic dampening for a more quite interior
5. Applied at the factor by either robot or by hand and usually heat cured.
- This panel shows a variety of beads used on doors, tailgates and engine and trunk areas. Each manufacture may use a unique Bead or texture

- Specialized equipment and dispense tips are required to duplicate the factory seams on both older and late model vehicles. Collision repair centers must meet strict standards to return a vehicle to pre crash condition

Epoxies are usually two part but there are single part, heat cure varieties used in Auto electronic applications.
1. Many varieties from slow to fast cure, low to high viscosity. Also available in putty form that can cure under water.
2. Epoxies fill gaps well
3. Must be blended thoroughly
4. Resistant to many chemicals
5. Bond to a variety of surfaces but tend to be
Brittle
6. Always wear gloves when using as they can cause allergic reactions.
- Epoxies must be mixed until the color is uniform. This one requires more mixing.

- Putties can be molded to shape and often cure under water. Great for emergency fuel tank or transmission repair on the trail.

Adhesive tapes
Can be adhesive backed foam or specialized acrylics.
1. Temporary to permanent applications
2. Low to high temperature resistance
3. Flexible and handle uneven or curved surface and moderate gap
4. Some are subject to UV degradation
5. Popular for mounting of dashboard accessories

Other adhesives include vinyl and leather seat repair kits, hybrid Adhesives and also specialty adhesive wraps.
- Minor Seat repair Is fairly easy as long as you have a keen eye for color matching

- Liquid electrical tape is a solvent based rubber adhesive that is great in tight areas or on difficult to seal components.
