PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

In keeping with our theme of "camping" for the summer months, tonight's product spotlight is on one of the most important pieces of equipment that we carry, and that is, water!

While it is not critical what kind of carrier we use (assuming that they are safe and DON"T leak), the only remaining area where our water cans have room for improvement, is convenience and conservation. Convenience means ease of use, and when possible, one handed operation, and conservation means that we use as little as possible so that it lasts for the duration of our trip.

For us, there are a few well defined uses of water:

• Hand washing. For this use the Wishy Washy is king.

• Showering. For this use, it is the shower pump that matters

• Kitchen Duties. This is where our product spotlight comes in

It is the area of Kitchen duties where tonight's product spotlight really shines. Kitchen duties covers such things as washing various food items, cleaning utensils while cooking, menus that require water, cleaning cooking/eating surfaces, and eventually, dish washing. Having a water dispenser that can be operated with one hand and which is adjustable, really makes the chef's job a lot easier.

The JAGMTE website is almost entirely devoted to Scepter and LCI water and gas cans. With respect to water cans, they have designed several products that improve their functionality and convenience. I routinely use my 2.5 gallon Scepter can for the kitchen, and decided to replace my trusty long hose faucet which leaked and required two hands to operate. The JAGMTE Scepter (and LCI) water can cap replacement is self venting (eliminating leaking) and only requires one hand to operate. Convenient, efficient, and simple. One note: In order to get the spigot positioned correctly, and to eliminate leaking, you will need a cap wrench, which JAGMTE sells. They are cheap, and having two would be a good idea.

Recovery of a vehicle stuck in the sand, snow, and mud requires techniques that differ from recovery of vehicles stuck in rocks and other materials.

Kinetic Recovery Ropes are like giant bungee straps. When stretched under the load and forward momentum of a recovery vehicle, the energy of the recovery vehicle is transferred to the recovery rope during its stretch, and then transferred to the towed vehicle. The energy at the towed vehicle when the stretch ends is the energy stored in the rope plus the continued pulling energy of the recovery vehicle, effectively the kinetic rope becomes a force multiplier.

There are numerous Kinetic Recovery Ropes on the market, with some being excellent, some ok, and some being nothing but junk, so purchase carefully.

Yankum Kinetic Ropes (https://buy.yankumropes.com/collections/kinetic-ropes) appear to be well proven in the field through use by commercial towing companies that conduct sand, snow, and mud recoveries. The key with Kinetic Ropes is to buy a rope of appropriate diameter and strength. If you buy a rope that is too large in diameter and far in excess of your needs, your vehicle may not be capable of stretching the rope so that it can store the momentum of the recovery vehicle, thus limiting the force multiplier effect. If you buy a rope that is too small in diameter and below your needs, you run the risk of snapping the rope. Buy a rope that is as long as you can manage as the longer ropes can store more energy and allow the recovery vehicle to add some space between it and the towed vehicle.

Cautions
Kinetic Recovery Ropes can be a useful tool, but in the wrong hands, or if abused, or not maintained, or due to defects, Kinetic Recovery Ropes can become quite dangerous and serious injury or death and property damage could result. Make sure to read and follow all the instructions that accompany a Kinetic Recovery Rope and follow them carefully.
