Items recently used on a trip that I was going to feature in another post but fit here.

- I sometimes find it very difficult to move past my old Army gear that continues to be a great "standard bearer." It may be antiquated, heavy and non-Gucci...but it works well and it grows on you; as did the kidney shaped, USGI, stainless steel, canteen cup that is usually nested in a Nalgene canteen verse the old OD USGI canteen (not depicted). Also not depicted is the USGI trifold shovel..., "built like a tank" equipment that has provided great service over the years.

- I have found that there is cookware for every occasion and cast iron is no different. For most camping events a Dutch oven is highly regarded, but...I also enjoyed the little brother to this set which has tabs for handles (easy to store/pack) and enough size for larger meals. I have used the little brother in a Dutch oven configuration by putting this on a rock in the middle of the fire and coals on the lid. It does several things "well" but remains versatile enough to meet our camping needs.

- I have my original Boy Scout utensil set since pre-teen age and I found this Girl Scout set at a thrift store and this was its first voyage to the outback. Again, sure it isn't titanium or some other high-speed, low-drag material but it is "familiar" in hand and it starts another chapter of use with our family.

- Pelican gear has been "winning" for decades. Again, it has an established place in the repertoire of flashlights/headlamps, protective cases and coolers we've used as a family or professionally as a travelling USGI government employee, US Army Infantry.

- Just now getting into Benchmade knives where two great examples are currently the "Bushcrafter" and the "Mini-Presidio". They have not seen as much use as my "working man's" Anza "Ranger" or Victorinox Swiss Army "Tinker" but they will...eventually.

Henschel Hats
From a small kitchen operation to a world-renowned headwear manufacturer, Joe Henschel set the bar across the industry. In 1945, with a few machines and original designs, Joe began selling headwear throughout Missouri. Joe’s unmatched quality and charismatic personality spread like wild fire with demand exceeding his kitchen’s capabilities. In 1947, Henschel Hat Company was founded, expanding to a 7 story headquarters, fully operational manufacturing facility, and 115 employees. 3 generations (70+ years) later the Henschel legacy remains intact with over 4,000 clients worldwide. Through innovation, consistency, and, most importantly, our customers, Henschel remains a leader in the industry.
