That antenna is half-wave on 2m and does not need a ground plane so it can be mounted on the hatch, bumper or even set on the ground and still work well. Very forgiving antenna but it is rigid and I have smacked mine on trees many times. One such encounter actually tweeked the mount on my roof because the antenna did not flex.

I think all the Diamonds are that way. :)

Yup they work great but the open coils like to hang on to branches. So watch out for that. I lost an antenna mount because my coil grabbed on to a branch and broke the mount. It was easy enough to find the antenna as it was still hanging from the tree.

Just remember to keep a spare mag mount in the rig and If possible a spare antenna.
