Haven't heard about the ExPo meet. What is it? There's swell in the water (finally) so I'll be surfing in the morning. If we can't connect on Saturday, just let me know what else works.

There is an Expediton Portal (ExPo) M&G on Saturday, at Miramar Lake. For some reason I though saw you over there too. Enjoy that swell! I guess I'll be watching the kiddo so the wife can get her surf on too.

Here are couple of pictures of the Bajarack, and trail ready storage system.

I pulled to factory sub to make room for a center console Tuffybox. I think it will make a good gun safe when it hard mounted.

Here are some shots of my radio install. The main body of the radio is temporarily mounted under the driver seat. As soon as I can get my hands on some power cables it will be mounted under the fender cowling thingy in cargo area where the sub used to sit. The k400 mount is also going to be replaced with a k540 mounted on the rack. The only hold up on the rack mount, is I'm not sure where I want to put it yet.

O yeah... FINALLY got my OAUSA stickers on. I didn't send them ALL to Borrego Fest!

You might consider leaving the antenna where it is - it can be easier to keep out of the way of obstacles on the trail

Update on laptop set up…
Toughbook CF-28 is finally finished. I found the caddy online for 40.00 plus a little for shipping and in went the 80gig hard drive and install of WinXPsp3
DeLorme Street Atlas 2011 with LT-40 usb GPS receiver 49.99 Frys’s
Spatial Minds Overland Navigator (works with LT-40 after DeLorme serial port emulator driver is installed)

Both GPS programs run flawlessly.

There was concern with Overland Navigator given the less than recommend amount of ram in this Toughbook, 384mb onboard and1g recommended. However after running Overland Nav around San Diego for a few days it tracks, records, and drops waypoints with no problems what so ever. The only other issue was that Overland Nav requires the GPS receiver to be speaking to it on a com port. When the LT-40 was first plugged in Overland Nav was not finding a GPS receiver. After a day and a half of searching I found the DeLorme Serial Emulator Driver. Once that was installed I opened Overland Nav and it locked right in on my position.

I have also been tinkering with the DeLorme Street Atlas software which to me is really cool. I can only compare it a Garmin Nuvi, and a Magellan Maestro. While the interface is not as user friendly as a standard turn by turn vehicle GPS device, it has much more potential than one. I plan on using it to create an itinerary for an upcoming drive to Memphis, TN with a stop by the Grand Canyon to get myself more familiar with the bells and whistles DeLorme has to offer.

I just need to get my hands on a Ram Mount or Jotto desk, and get this thing hardwired to the truck.

In addition to the set of navigation software I also downloaded the manuals for my Yaesu and Icom radios, FJ manuals, and Ham Radio Deluxe.

Thats awesome, ive wanting to set one of these up myself, where did you happen to find your toughbook, and how do you like the Windows XP sp3 set up?
