I stand corrected - the exposure in video can indeed be manually set! The procedure, which has no mention of this on any in-camera screen and it's buried back on page 100-and-something in the manual, goes like this:

- In video mode, find the spot where you want to lock in the focus.

- Give the shutter release a half-press, then let go.

- Quickly press ^ (up) on the control pad.

- Rotate the control pad to brighten or darken exposure, then film away.

My S-95 has become one of those things you don't leave home without. It is so convienent--the size is perfect. I have sold my backup DSLR body. I actually like the video and the more I play with it and learn its abilities, the more I like it.

Have you played with CHDK yet? They have a stable release for the S95 now. Because of the S95's already ample abilities you don't gain much from the overrides (1/20,000th shutter is about it), but on the utility side it is great to have. I'm working on time-lapse with the intervalometer now, and hoping to get some good lightning pics with the motion detector this monsoon season.

Edit - 32 seconds (about as long as you can go before backlight bleed), F2.0, ISO80

Yeah, no doubt. You'd think they'd make that function right there on the control dial like it is in the photo modes, especially considering the control dial isn't doing SQUAT in video mode.
