Thinking about just buying the bladder cause I have several nice day packs. I know it's not the same but i think I can improvise and save $90.00. Bad idea?

Camelbak 102 oz/3.1L MG Omega Reservoir Low Profile $32.00 plus shipping.

Good idea. That's what I did since I already have a day pack.

I have the Platypus Hoser 100 oz. hydration resevior. Just $22.95 at REI.

Cool thanks for the vote of confidence. The Omega bladder is the one Ollie pointed out and has in his new Camelbak Transformer. It has a built in baffle system to help keep the shape of the bladder flat and reduce bulging.

BTW have you guys heard of Nalpak? They're in your neck of the woods and have some great prices on some cool gear.

If you have packs already, just buying a bladder is a great idea. When I'm carrying two bladder, since the packs are only designed for one bladder, I drape one across the top under the pack cover and run the additional hose down the opposite shoulder strap that the built in bladder is running down. THen I don't have to worry about digging the other bladder out when one runs dry. The other neat thing with two bladders is you can put water in one and a gatorade mix (or electrolite mix) in the other. Now you have the best of both worlds.

Nalpak is located in El Cajon. I visit it frequently. They sell a plethra of different gear. I bought the Pelican cases on my roof rack from them. The price was about 40% cheaper than anywhere else I could find them. They have many case brands other than Pelican as well. They also have a vast selection of survival gear. Their customer service is amazing as well. They aren't too far from John's house.

Ollie-

Is this hike still on?

I bought a CamelBak Fourteener today, I like it.
Capacity: 100 oz. (3 L)
Cargo: 1587 cu. in.
$93.00 plus tax at Sports Chalet

BTW I have lost 4 pounds this week so you'll only need to carry me the last 1/2 mile or so....

It's absolutely still on. So far we've got five confirmed two possibles and two I haven't heard from yet. We can put up to 12 people on a permit so we're good. I'm relly looking forward to this trip. It's such a beautiful area. Unless the temps get above 95 the plan is to push forward. Anything above 95 an we run the local trails in the area and explore Idyllwild.

BTW.. In the description of this run I only mentioned bringing an AED for you. No carrying was mentioned.
