Here you go, wanna practice fire suppression and improve you skill-set?
Become a Community Emergency Response Team member and have fun with Module 2, FIRE SAFETY.
Phil, you said it well. I've probably put out 15 pan or real fires and I am still learning.
Its not as easy as you think.

This is terrific information. We are planning on doing a net on CERT and related subjects on Feb 9, 2017 and this would be a great topic for discussion.

I tried everything that I could think of, for almost half an hour, then I noticed that, somehow, the mobile WI-FI hot spot in the netbook got turned on, and that's OK for other devices, to use it, but it also prevented me from connecting into the WORLD Conference.

Also, I thought that they were going to get rid of Halon, because they claimed that Halon destroys Ozone, and they used to sell Halon in the stores around here, but I haven't seen them for some time.

Also, I had purchased a fire extinguisher, back in 1977, and carried it in my first car, a 1964 Ford Station Wagon, and later on, in 1978 I put it in the home, and I still actually have it here, after all of these years, and it still has its original charge, so it probably wouldn't even work, as I have never used it, never discharged it, and never refilled it, so I wonder what it looks like inside, and whether it would even work anymore...and it still shows that it is fully charged...according to the gauge.

The manufacturing of Halon was halted back in 1994, but the existing stock is still being legally used today and presumably will continue until it is exhausted or another more effective agent is discovered. Presently, its effectiveness is far greater than anything else on the market. In fact, it is the fire suppressant choice of almost every commercial airline, based on its effectiveness and safety for use around humans. At 45,000 feet, only the best will do!

KK6ATH wrote:I just bought some Fire Extinguisher Tamper-Safety Seals on the internet. I paid $6 for (40) tabs made by DeWalt. They are red and have a 14 lb. pull. I am going to tape an extra seal to the body of all of my fire extinguishers. That way I have a replacement in the event that one breaks or gets broken. I once had a fire extinguisher deploy accidentally while driving because a seal broke and I didn't replace it.

In addition to having a fire extinguisher in all my vehicles I have several around my house.
I bought Buckeye fire extinguishers, they are cheaper than Amerex and retain the same quality.

Thanks Gabe. I just ordered up a pack!

That's what I thought, so if they're still available, then they must've made quite a few of them.

Great tip! I also just ordered the safety seals. I had no idea how messy a fire extinguisher until one accidentally deployed in my living room :o
