You can take grapevine canyon up from Lucern valley. It is a nice trail. If anyone is interested, I am planning on going to BB this Sat to hit a few trails. Anyone interested let me know>

Well.... It may not be too hard to talk me into it if we have a spotter.

I broke one of few vulnerable parts under the truck the last time I tried running it. I was following another Pinzgauer that was bopping up through the rocks without a spotter showing off to the Jeepers behind us  . I took a couple of bad lines and took out the hydraulic slave cylinder that engages the front drive axle. I ended up getting stuck at the top of the second boulder field before I realized that I was only in 2WD. I did manage to get turned around and made it back down through both boulder fields only to get stuck in stupid spot at the very bottom where I had a small rock in front of each of the wheels. The soil was too loose to get over the rocks so I had to be jerked out  . Fortunately I was still able to drive the truck home.

Ollie is a hell of a patient spotter and this time you'll be in 4 wheel drive! Also, west to east is bit easier in my opinion cause the worst 200 yards of the whole trail is down hill going that way. Either way we'll have a blast.

I'm up for runs Friday too. I'm new to 4 wheeling. Gold Mountain is the toughest I've run so far. McJeep spotted me so it was ok. At this point my FJ is more capable than I am as a driver. My FJ is my DD and my way home, so I do not want to get in too far over my head.

I'm also looking for something to run Friday afternoon - we should be heading up Friday AM. Not sure I'm ready for JB, but maybe.

I have wanted to run Rattlesnake for a long time - I thought about trying that last year at MountainFest. I'd prefer to do that with someone who's done it before, either Friday or Saturday.

I'm sure you would do great, some pics of the FJ would help us advise you or at least maybe list some of your mods and equipment. In the mean time do a Google search of John Bull Trail "image"s and see what you think. I'm sure I get stuck on a rock or two, if you don't your not trying!

Dave already listed a mandatory equipment list so check that out if you have not already. Take care.

I guess I can say that I ran the tough part of John Bull from West to East in 2WD even if it was unintentional :D.

Yeah!! That's the way to look at it. Eric will have sliders and Notamog beat the Bull in 2 wheel drive. :D

I am going to try to change my morning calander for the 22nd so I can leave on time. Eric I will let you know what time I can leave.

NotAMog wrote:Is anyone planning some moderate runs for Big Bear. I don't trailer my rig so I need to drive it home and I have another wheeling trip planned for Labor Day weekend that I don't want to miss. Two places I would like to avoid are John Bull and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Although, can be fun to sit at the gate keeper to John Bull and watch the carnage .

If anyone knows of a different way up the mountain from Lucern Valley I'd be open to doing that Friday.
I'd like to run a trial with you sometime over the weekend. I really want to see that beast in action. :o
