Camping checklists w/ G-Docs --
TL;DR -- Skip to the links at the end. I put together a quick sketch of a 'camp out shared checklist.' G-docs work well with multiple people banging on them at the same time, so ping a friend and both jump on and see if it works for you in a 'shared' mode.
Benton here, NX7O. I was the one suggesting using google-docs for a camping checklist. This is what I use to keep track of my Costco/HomeDespot/etc shopping lists; one s'sheet, multiple tabs. I made a Costco run today -- walked through the house (inside pantry, garage cupboards, freezer) checking stocks of our regular Costco shopping. I can add items beyond the norm as they occur to me. The shared doc is available on my desktop, laptop and phone. Wife's devices too, tho' she never takes advantage. As I walked through the store, filling the cart, I uncheck the list items.
I threw this quick sample together so you could see what it might look like. It becomes especially useful for the shared camping gear, like who's going to bring the stove (since the group only needs one, plus maybe a spare since 'two is one and one is none,') propane bottles, tables.
G-Docs can be edited simultaneously by several people and it updates for everyone in real-time -- in my experience within a fraction of a second. A cell turns gray when someone is editing on it and shares out (and is saved) when they step out of the cell.
The sample I whipped together is a quick concept around the shared responsibilities but individuals could have their own, private sheet. Socks, underwear, shoes, boots... (Have I told you about the time wife and I headed off for the Utah NPs and I forget to pack underwear? Not my finest moment.)
Feel free to play with the sample. Given that the 'sheet is set to allow anyone with the link to edit, you should be able to play w/o 'logging into your browser.' On any sheet, permissions can be restricted to specific individuals for view only vs. edit, etc.
Click through the tabs at the bottom of the sheet.
The biggest risk on a shared sheet is someone fat-fingering, especially when folks are getting used to the mechanisms and especially working on tiny devices, like phones. If you notice you've screwed it up, you can crtl-z undo, but it can get messy if you don't notice right away. I take regular snap-shots of 'sheets I share with multiple folks (e.g. club rosters.) Pro-tip: On phones, 'two-finger stretch' the sheet larger so you can poke more accurately.
