June 5th & 6th - Big Bear (SummerFest Pre-Run)
Re: June 5th & 6th - Big Bear (SummerFest Pre-Run)
I just checked the USFS site and it appears a pass can be bought at big 5, sport chalet etc. Another thought, renew your hunting license, there are critters in season.

Hey Chazz,
Any chance I can join as well? Got a few of the parts on the 4R, shouldn't slow you guys down as much this time.

Yep, that is certainly an option. DC is the closest for me, and I have questions for the rangers, so that's my reason for going.ssc wrote:I just checked the USFS site and it appears a pass can be bought at big 5, sport chalet etc. Another thought, renew your hunting license, there are critters in season.

I wish non-resident permits weren't so expensive in CA...
Absolutely, we'll see you on Saturday.SP Jon M3 wrote:Hey Chazz,

Re: June 5th & 6th - Big Bear (SummerFest Pre-Run)
Considering the new campsite, how about this:
Saturday:
Gold Mountain + Jacoby Canyon
Lunch
Dishpan + Holcomb Creek (IIRC, these two could be run together?)
Sunday:
Heartbreak Ridge + down to the desert via Rattlesnake Canyon
Lunch
Head for home
Am I remembering Dishpan/Holcomb correctly? It has been a LONG time since I ran through that area, and I have never been on Heartbreak Ridge or Rattlesnake... Eric, any interest in leading these?

1st post updated. PM inbound.sdnative wrote:See you all at 9:30.
Let's exchange numbers via PM. What's the call in frequency? If nothing setup, we can use sugarloaf and 147.510 simplex (IIRC Keller was hard to hit from the lake)

I can only make it for Saturday. I can lead whatever. I have never run Dishpan so I wont be much help there.
Last time I checked (a couple of weeks ago) Holcomb was still closed. Heartbreak Ridge is on the east side of the lake, so if you guys are staying at the cabin it may make sense to run that on Saturday. From the DC, we can run GM, JC, Heartbreak Ridge/ Pontiac Loop, then out to the 38 from there. Makes for a nice day. But I am open for anything.

We'll stick to the original plan for Sunday or do Rattlesnake.

I think Holcomb is still closed and if I remember, it was dishpan aka deepcreek. It has been a long time, but if I remember correctly, I use to run Dishpan west to east. I do agree with Eric for the Sat run--it flows much better.

Do not forget that the 330 is closed guys, probably be faster to renew and get passes at the forest station on the 38, and then head up to the trails or coon creek cabin, DC is a long drive not taking the 330, just thought i would mention that.

Are you sure about 330? The caltrans site is a bit ambiguous. It is open Mon to thur with construction, It makes no mention of fri to sun and I assume it is open. I will try to verify this info. If closed, I will go through Victorville and take 18. Here is the quote from cal trans.
