Anyone's welcome to ride along if they want. One advantage of having a troop transport for a rig is that you can go on a run with 7 of your closest friends AND a refrigerator full of food and drink

.
Just don't ask about air conditioning or heat but I do carry a supply of passenger ear plugs for highway use

Just watched this video on JB. There are a couple spots in there where it looks like I would get rocker damage. Maybe they were taking harder lines, and I'm not sure if there are alternate lines in some of these areas.

That was a good video of the terrain but I didn't see any quality spotting going on at all, no hand signals, nothing. Also, that was a bone stock jeep, no lift and he did pretty well.
I will stack rocks for you!

That is a good video; I just did John Bull last weekend and took my Brother through for his first time. He is runs a TJ with 3" of lift 33" tires and did not hit his body at all, we spent some time with the spotting to make sure. As Scott said good spotting is important. On the other hand my Disco has a 2” lift with 32” tires and I rode my rock sliders quite a bit. I have been through the trail a few times and it has some tough sections. Last year we ran it with Randy (I think he was 5greens on ADD4x4) in his FJ and he used his sliders heavily. I am not sure how he was set up. The trail has changed from last year.

What about running Grapevine down to Lucerne Valley, and then Rattlesnake back up to Big Bear? I think Grapevine pretty much starts at the campsite. I've wanted to do Rattlesnake for a while. I'd be interested in doing this if some others want to go along.
Can anyone who has run these before give me an idea of the difficulty? Sounds easy to moderate based on the guidebooks. Any tricky routefinding involved?

Cnynrat,
You can do it, but I wouldn't. Grapevine takes you down to the 18. I always air down, so you would be running on 18 for a while aired down. I think the better way is to take the trails 3n16 to either Jacoby and do Jacoby or all the way to the 18. Then you are on the 18 a short ways to 3n03. There are two ways into Rattlesnake, Heartbreak, actually four. I generally come in from Yucca and get lost, but have fun and find our way around. Hearbreak has some tough areas.
I would like to spend a day exploring the whole area. You could get lunch at Pioneertown.

Eric,
I got a good laugh out of that. I also spilled my Jack Daniels.
I think I am going to run Bull tomarrow.
