Have you had a chance to look at the Tiny Trak gear?

I'm just getting started with the APRS and don't know that much about it
other the what one of the hams at the electronics store has said. He indicated
that the Tiny Trak three or four was all that would be needed with an inexpensive 2 meter radio
hooked up to my laptop computer.

Any help or direction you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Unizip or extract the files to your peak systems/ui-view32/maps folder then when you open the program you can see more of thel local traffic.

I had to leave for Dinner that I forgot, sorry I had to leave so suddenly. I forgot to check your audio levels. We can work on that soon.

No apologies are necessary. The system seems to be working OK, as I'm receiving all sorts of information, and stations are popping up on the map. I don't know if the system is automatically transmitting my station info, but it does transmit manually.

Bob, sorry for the delay in my response, I finally gave up on a lost cause I had on my computer. Let me supply I quote I got on the Byonics website.

Planned Functionality:
9600 baud and 300 baud encode and decode TNC & Tracker
DTMF encode and decode - use for remote control, logging, transmitter hunting

Please note that while TinyTrak4 has been successfully used by hundreds of operators, it still does not contain all planned functionality. New code will be written and posted to this site, and that code can always be downloaded for free from this site to upgrade existing TinyTrak4s in the field. If you are concerned about ordering a TinyTrak4 before a feature you need has been added, please delay your purchase and contact Byonics by email.

While the full TNC is planned for the Tinytrak 4 it does not have that capablilty right now. SO at this point it would function to transmit your position data to the network in stand alone mode, It does not immediately allow for the use tethered to a computer.

I would think that you could set the Tinytrack to standalone tracker mode and then split off the audio from your radio to power a receive only station with your computer using the AGW Packet engine the others are exploring.

The tinytrack 4 also has the capability to plot stations as a waypoint on "compatible GPS" devices I am not certain at this point on how that is implemented. I would imagine that may have an impact on your ability to use your GPS with your computer at the same time.

I think I mistyped, you can also use it for AGWTracker, but you need to open a new map project and then open the map file, you can then layer additional maps to get a larger map

Hector, three quick questions...

How do I set up UI View 32 so it automatically sends out a beacon ?

Is there a way (and is it legal) to send out a name instead of a callsign to be received by others monitoring APRS?

The map of LA County works great...
Is there a map of LA that covers more area (incl northern LA county) ?

There is a library of maps covering most of southern california at http://cheloco.com/aprs/ most of the site is in Spanish, but the map download link is at the left of the page. I recommend the New California Maps small file link.

Gotta go to work but I will get with you on the other questions.

The Signal Link was shipped on Monday and should arrive tomorrow or Thursday. It comes complete with everything that will be necessary to hit the ground running, including software and cables (made specifically for the radio I am using).

Most importantly, it comes with instructions (available from the website in pdf) which are some of the best I have seen. I downloaded the instructions today and read through it in its entirety and when compared to some of the other things I have seen in reference to APRS , this thing is a GEM! Engineering degree NOT required!

Is there a way for me to send a message to you, or to any other stations I want to contact ?
