Need HF?

I got a TS-480 SAT + High Sierra Sidekick - good all the way down to 80m (have hit Australia and England on a good evening).. if I get motivated I may swap to a TS-480 HX.

I am an Extra.

Overall my rig setup has -

TS-480 SAT (100w)
High Sierra Sidekick
FTM-350R (w 2m/qrp220/440) + APRS computer (350 is an awesome box!!)
TM-741 / 742 setups - 6m/2m/220/440/1200 Mhz,
Tribander mobile and base antennas, Optima Yellow-Top Auxillary w/West Mountain battery isolator

Just finished doing a mountain relay for the MojaveRATS Baker-to-Vegas effort (LASD MCJ #1 three years! + Norwalk + Transportation + Community Colleges/Marina del Rey).... so I can now turn my attention to summer activities.

Arkarch,
Hopefully Steeevo will chime in here soon. I haven't heard from him in a while but I do know we'll need more Extras and Generals to participate as band captains. Right now, I think we're looking for someone to run the 15m station. Would you be willing? Are you set up to run a portable station or just a mobile? We're probably going to need some additional wires, beams and/or verticals. We are hoping to run just one mobile in order to showcase the mobile capabilities of HF....but, hopefully no more than that.
We want this to be a "Field Day" event, and will be emphasizing portable operation as opposed to less effective mobile.

Given that the TS-480 is not presently mounted in my rig, it would not be difficult to just bring it out as a portable base. Antenna-wise... the High Sierra can be tripod-mounted - but something better would be nice. The TS-480 SAT has the auto-tuner circuitry. Otherwise I have no base-specific HF antenna / power equipment.

I'm mostly an 80m (75) guy, but 15m should be good.

I think Steve is setting up the 80m station at this point. I can put together a 15m dipole for you. It'll work much better than a screwdriver. I really hope this site has an abundance of trees.............? The ATU in your rig will probably be narrow, but will help. We're planning on running fully resonant wires or verticals as much as possible. I'll be bringing my 259b and I'm sure there will be others.
15m is a much better DX band and if you come up on Friday and we can get you rigged early and we may be able to put some serious stuff in your log ahead of Saturdays mayhem on the bands. ;)

Steve, FYI, if you've sent this I haven't seen it yet.

It looks like we have most of our needs for Field Day. The few remaining areas where we will need some help are below. If you can help out, post up.

1. Co-ax RG8x in 50 foot lengths
2. Co-ax barrel junctions
3. EZ- Hang or a similar device to throw a line up in the trees for stringing the wire antennas.
4. A large container of twine (kinda like the stuff at Home Depot to tie up large items that stick out of your truck).
5. AC extension cords (12 ga. preferably)

Thanks.

I was listening to the guys on the BB repeater last weekend. One of them built a pneumatic tennis ball launcher to get the antenna pull line really high up in the trees. Using an "enhanced" tennis ball, he was able to get over 10 seconds of hang time. That's about 300'+ of elevation

Wish we could borrow theirs.

I have heard that one of our members is working on a potato cannon for this purpose. It just may work. Seems like a waste of good potatoes though.

Hmmmm......do you suppose that these things could be considered concealable weapons?
