What a "shocking and unexpected development."

Also, don't laugh to hard about the discrimination pun above. One of the joys of the "open carry movement" is that it is attracting its share of golddiggers. They don't care about gun rights, these dirtbags just see a way to try to get some money by filing suit against anyone and everyone. Many are in it for the money, not the gun right movement. This is one reason, many depts are starting to change policy. Revenue issue.
I suppose they can drive their toyota to the open carry meeting and have two "shots." My toyota just drove off and wouldn't stop. The police harassed me and I was discriminated against--who to sue first.
Food for thought--and don't ever think the firearm industry has our interests first.

Yes, I've seen this. However, if they were actually able to pass it, I suspect this would actually backfire on them by sparking lawsuits claiming infringement of 2nd Amendment rights (as Incorporation seems likely) and actually end up guaranteeing the right, not only for open carry, but loaded open carry for all.

Stanford University law professor Robert Weisberg, an expert on gun laws, says it's unlikely that the California legislature would endorse Saldaña’s bill. “The great majority from both political parties don’t want to cross the gun lobby,” he says.
While the National Rifle Association, the nation’s most influential gun rights group, appears to have distanced itself from the open carry movement, it probably would back efforts to defeat any move to limit California's open carry law, says Professor Weisberg.
Also, what's with the implication that this is a money-making venture for some? Most who do so don't carry their gun to make money off the police. They carry for honorable reasons and would find a suggestion to the otherwise to be presumptuous and insulting. Believe me, I know. I mentioned that to a fellow I know who carries and it was rather offensive to him.

Got to love it. Tongue in cheek.
John, I didn't imply anything-I made a statement and I stand by it. Like the toyota issue has brought out goldiggers, so has the OCM, looking for a way to make money. I have been privy to some of the claims and lawsuits. It is nice to know members of the city council and county counsel and be in and out of the courts daily. I deal with vexatious litigants on a regular basis. I never said that all or most or many OCM members were goldiggers. Just like the mortgage modification movement brought out goldigger attorneys, claiming to do loan mods and did nothing except steal money. If members of the OCM get insulted, so be it. They need to recognize it is happening.
The bottom line to me is that we in Calif, who are gun advocates, must recognize our shortcomings. We are faced by an anti gun media, who wants to show us as nutjobs. We have a PR problem. We have a population that is not raised with guns or involved in guns. Most of the folks are rather neutral on the issue except they are influenced by the media and we have a large group who are antigun. We are never going to change the anti's, so we need to stop trying. It is the large silent majority that we need to reach and we must do it in a way that the media can't make us look like nuts and in a fashion where we welcome this majority into the pro gun mainstream in a constructive fashion. Hence, my reason why the OCM will backfire. OCM is giving the media a good story and this silent majority is seeing what appears to be to them "goofy gun people." A term said to me by a nice women I was talking too. She really had no feelings one way or the other on gun control, but was starting to lean to the left due to this OCM. For us to win the war we need to win the votes. This is my approach. I know what I think the correct way to attempt to do this is, but it is just my opinion.
When gun issues come up, the antis and pros are vocal and the large voting public observes--and then votes. We need them.

In regards to closing the OC, I highly doubt it will lead to OC with loaded guns. Mr. Heller just lost in federal court trying to invalidate some other Washington DC restrictions. Unless this decision is overturned, it was quite a win for the anti gun position.

Well......it was bound to happen. AB1934 has been introduced in the the legislature and is intended to ban the "open carry" of unloaded handguns in California. Arnie has been instructed to sign the bill when it reaches his desk.
Who didn't' see that one coming? Oh well!

I always thought that "open carry" was for doing things like bringing your gun to the range. The only point of carrying around an unloaded gun in a holster is so the people look at you with fear in their eyes. Maybe that makes you feel big, but I'll just think you are a dumb ass. The guys with the loaded guns would rather everyone not stare and call the cops whenever they see you. I'm not a fan of using the police force, but i'd call them just to mess with the idiot walking around with a gun on his hip.
