MURPHY, I HATE YOU!

....Murphy's Law that is.

This morning i woke up at 7am to shower and run some errands. I waited 5 minutes for hot water to flow, so i got dressed and went outside to check the pilot light on the water heater. Upon opening the heater cabinet, i found water flowing down the side of the heater into the drain underneath. So friggin unbelievable. The cash flow i set aside for Mojave is currently gone gone gone. Im about to go pick up the new heater at Home Depot and see if i can install it before tonight. Gonna see if i can borrow some cash to make Mojave, but right now the only thing on my mind is getting a warm shower. Plumbing is nasty.

Your water heater is probably 10 years old or more, that's about the average life unless you drain it and replace the sacrifical nodes on occasion. They can sometimes deteriorate much faster than that.

Drain the old water heater with a hose, before you try to remove it. You'll need some copper tubing, elbows, solder, a torch with a benzene canisterand other soldering supplies. Watch this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doqoEJJOdYA , it will help you greatly. When you're all done make sure you strap the new water heater to the wall. You'll be blown away by how efficient the new heaters are. Good luck.

You pay a few more dollars but the new tanless water heaters are awsome. Limitless hot water and if you flush them on periodic intervals they will last you much longer than the traditional tank water heaters. They are available in gas or electric.
