Dove the Yukon

I dove the Yukon on Sunday. It's a Canadian Destroyer that was sunk deliberately to make an artificial reef.

Length: 366' Breadth: 42' Tons: 2,380 Cargo: None
Built: Launched 27 July 1961 by Burrard Dry Dock & Shipbuilding
Location: Off Mission Bay, San Diego
Coordinates: 32 46.80N 117 17.12W
Hull Construction: Steel
Depth: 100'
Visibility: 15-40'
Our visability was 20-25 feet. We made two dives that lasted about 30 minutes each. Here are some images. They are terible shots, but I've never taken photos underwater before.

That's sick Braden! The shot's aren't so bad. The vis looks good, how far offshore is that?.

Not very far, it's sunk about 1.8 miles straight off of Mission Bay. The boat ride only took about 15 minutes.

Mike- Learning to dive cost about as much as a cheap mod on your FJ and will open a whole new world of exploration to you. I have the recent PADI books, worksheets and video if you would like to borrow them, that'll save you $100.

I have done about 6 dives on the Yokon, but not for several years. The last time I was amazed to find lots of the white metridium anemones (they look like little white trees in the photo) I have never seen them near San Diego as they usually hang out much deeper and colder. That wreck is a very cool dive.

The pics are incredible Braden. Don't sell yourself short. THanks for sharing these dventures. I personally would like to see more of stuff like this added to our site. Ourdoor adventure in it's entirety is our long term mindset.
