The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety, in a press release dated 4/14/09, revealed a stunning new discovery in the field of physics.

Laws of physics prevail: The Honda Fit, Smart Fortwo, and Toyota Yaris are good performers in the Institute's frontal offset barrier test, but all three are poor performers in the frontal collisions with midsize cars. These results reflect the laws of the physical universe, specifically principles related to force and distance.

Size and weight affect injury likelihood in all kinds of crashes.

Perhaps the most amazing revelation was this:

In a collision involving two vehicles that differ in size and weight, the people in the smaller, lighter vehicle will be at a disadvantage.

Shocking!!!!

The IIHS didn't even pair up an SUV with the little fellas - they chose what they called a "mid size " car.

I can't handle the truth.

This reminds me of a study I heard about, It was a 3 year study that came to the conclusion that aspirin relieves headaches. I need to be a scientist, I want to get a billion dollar grant to prove that food can fill you up when you are hungry.

Forget scientist - I want to be a meteorologist. Those weather people on TV news shows are wrong 99.9% of the time when they "predict" the time, duration, and intensity of storms; yet they never lose their jobs or get demoted..Heck, some even get raises...

I'd like to see the setup for that one.

I think about the danger of those cars every time I see one. The other day I was doing 75 mph near Camp Pendleton when one of those shoe box cars passed me like I was standing still. That person must have had a death wish.
