I was just curious if anyone has any experience with the TOPO U.S. 24K Maps. After getting mixed up on my last trip out I am picking up a Garmin Colorado 300 and am wondering what to expect. I've heard there are also some free map projects being developed but haven't looked into it too much yet.

I used to have a Harmon Kardon 810 GPS but gave it up when I felt overly distracted by the goodies and less focused on the nav (It is actually a pretty good unit, but had a few glitches such as occasional lock ups). This time I tried to grab a unit more focused on the nav and more versitile (hiking, biking, driving, tracks, geocaching).

I would probably buy it if it included Arizona as well.

Right now I am running the TOPO 2008 (100k maps) in my 60csx. Wish it had more detail. For a handheld GPS, you really need 24k maps.

Okay. Yeah it's too bad they split up the West. There is a Southwest package that includes Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. I hear a lot of good things about the 60 series even though it is a bit older. I know everyone says that the display is easier to read on the 60csx in various lighting conditions. I am hoping that I will be okay in vehicle since I will be hooked up to permanent power and able to use a constant backlight.

Anyone have experience with the CA 24K? I am currently running the AZ 24K on my 60CSX and need to get the CA microSD for Borrego.

I have the CA Garmin 24K package. I run it in my 60Cx and my 478. Worth every penny and then some. There is so much more detail. If you run Garmin and your GPS excepts TOPO maps the 24K maps are a must.

Sounds like it is worth ithe investment!

I use the delorme pn40 gps and it has the 24K quads, and color sat images too. You can get a yearly subscription to the map DB and download as much as you want.

This is what I have. The map subscription is a pretty cool deal. I kind of wish I would have gotten the pn60. Having the extra internal memory would have been a bonus.

I bought a 32gb SD card. It will hold as much as i can ever want, and its easy to swap different maps back and forth off my computer.

Huh. I thought it had a size limit on the cards. Nice to know it doesn't. I'll have to steal, um, borrow, on of the cards from my wife's camera.
