While he does not get the time to participate frequently on the OAUSA forum, many of us have spent time on the trail, in the field, and at the grill with Sunnygrill (Nikos).
So, I thought I would proudly announce he is now also a member of the amateur radio community, too:
Congratulations, Sunnygrill, KI6ZGN

Great job Sunnygrill! As often as you were testing your CB to make sure it worked, I'm looking forward to answering your calls on the ham so you can make sure it is working too!
If I can ever get out of work at a decent time, maybe we can do some distance tests in the evening. Ollie and I got 12 miles apart on Simplex between the 405 and 5 freeways.

Excellent... Glad to see that he pushed on and got his ticket. Congratulations Nikos.

There is something wrong if you cannot get further than 12 miles on simplex between mobiles, was one of you on an HT?

Yeah, 12 miles is OK, distance-wise, if mobiles were used- but you usually have a longer range if no major obstructions exist...
When we were leaving Calico, Nikos and I were talking with Ollie and Frogeye for at least a 25-30+ mile distance for a while (with mobile radios) as we travelled past Barstow heading west, and Ollie headed south from Calico...I'm sure mountain top to mountain top VHF should be even more impressive...
