Well, this is the last month for a trip into Coyote Canyon until it opens again in October. So I'm doin' my traditional run here on the last weekend of May. [Edit- I had to change the date to the 24th. I forgot we have another wedding to go to.] As some already know, the shelf road known as the 'Turkey Grade' heading down into the canyon has been severly graded. However, Horse Canyon does provide a challenging route thru the area. If June 1st wasn't on that sunday, I'd probably camp there that weekend, but we'll have to be out of there that day so let's get an early start an have some fun in Anza Borrego!

I'll be warm out, (high 90's to mid 100's) so bring plenty of water for yourself and any passangers, and make sure your vehicle's fluids are all topped off. Stockers will be just fine on this run and those with more modified rigs will find some nice obstacles for those wanting a challenge and bypasses for those who don't. The trailhead is located just off Terwiliger rd in Anza. From San Diego, take 15 north to hwy 79. Turn right and continue until you reach the left turn for hwy 371. Once you're in Anza, turn right on Terwiliger rd (also Kirby rd) and then left on Coyote Canyon rd. I'm sure we could get a caravan going on the way. I'll post up more info as the date gets closer.

Is UCC closed as well? I thought it was just LCC at the second crossing to allow the sheep access to water in the hot months. I didn't think UCC was affected, BUT I don't know for sure.

Oh yeah. The entire canyon is closed June 1st through September 30th. The gate in UCC is near the start of the trail next to the signs telling you about the canyon. You'd enjoy Horse Canyon, eric!

Do you think this day ride will still happen? I'm going to be in the Palm Desert area that weekend. Would love to meet up and ride. I've done the usual mild mods to my FJ. Not interested in beating it up but I am interested in improving my skills. Hope it works out. Had a blast at SedonaFest and met a lot of great people. SteveB.

This sounds like a fun run and BW is a good guide. I will try to make it. What time? I will be coming in from Riverside, so I will either take 74 or cut through Hemet. Eric, we know you can make it. :D

Regards, SSC

Well, I'm still planning on this run but only if I get my fuel pump fixed before the weekend. We just got back from the Colorado River, near Yuma AZ. However, on the way back home my Jeep stopped running and I had to get it towed home. That was free, fortunately. So, if it looks like I'm gonna be having trouble getting it fixed before then, I'll have to cancel. I'm hoping I won't have to but I'll keep everyone posted on what's going on. Worst case- we'll have to wait until October to run Coyote Canyon.

As for my river trip, it was around 106* and the fishin' was good!

Well, sorry guys, but it looks like I'm gonna have to cancel this run after all. Saturday, I'm gonna be putting in a new fuel pump, distributor and sparkplug wires. Then I should be back off the road! ;) I'll get another run going for this area again in a few months when it reopens. The weather will be a lot cooler then as well.

BW, sorry to hear about your Jeep. The good news is that the pump did not go out on some very remote trail. I look forward to hooking up after the summer. BTW: 106 degrees  Good fishin' :D
