This is a great opportunity to work for your ham ticket.

Our last test session at BPS was very successful on several levels; we had many folks earn their licenses, while attracting lot of attention for OAUSA outside, where we held an informal meet and greet for those who were interested in both ham radio and off roading...

I'm looking forward to being there in Oct.... :D

I am looking forward to another one of these events. We can set it up as another meet and greet. Then a few weeks later we have Borregofest. :D

You might want to consider bumping this up one weekend. On October 3th and 4th., the California QSO Party is held. One of the largest national contests of the year. There are categories for all bands and modes for both HF (160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10m) and FM (10, 6 and 2m). Techs can compete on 10 USB and FM and 6 and 2m FM
It would be more interesting if the organizers could set up a small contest station there to compete on the different bands.
In addition to the testing, prospective hams or those who are testing could get on the air in the simplest of ways (under licensed supervision, as second party traffic)...all that is required is a short simple exchange of RST report, county name, and serial (QSO) number....then it's back to calling CQ. This is an easy introductory way for people to get on the air.

I'll be there....

It was a blast talking to all the folks wanting to know about our rigs and OAUSA...I'm looking forward to doing it again.

We should get everyone who can run APRS from OAUSA, wherever they are that day, to turn on their radios - we can demonstrate the tracking / messaging capabilities of ham radio in real time...

I think I can be ready to test by then. Any recommendations for a good study guide? For me it won't be so much a hobby as getting reliable communications...

Oh, and lurker checking in. :D

Just go to http://www.shenware.com/dlamateurradio.html and download the practise tests.
It's how I studied for my tech exam and I got 100% on it!
Oh, and welcome aboard, lurker!
