My friend Nick and I ran The Rubicon Sunday and Monday last weekend. The best word I have to describe the trip is “Epic”. This is a truly beautiful place. The trail lives up to it reputation as one of the toughest. Using the 1-5 scale I would call it a 4+ to a 5+ depending on which line you take. There are bypasses for some of the harder spots, but even those are a least a 4+. Some spots don’t have a bypass at all.

Nick grew up an hour away from the trailhead. His 1st off-road experience was running the Rubicon. He knows the trail very well, and I was fortunate to have him as a guide.

He just got his rig back the day before the trip. He had Dynatrac 60’s, coilovers, highsteer, hydro-assist steering, sliders, and side armor installed. All of that riding on 37” Toyo’s on WE beadlocks. This was the 1st trip out for him after all those mods. His rig is truly a monster, and performed well.

There is so much I could say about this trip that it would take up pages, so I’ll just post the photo’s…

On the slab at the beginning.

30 minutes into the trail and I blow a bead. 45 minutes to reset and back to crawling.

We camped at Spider Lake. This whole area is amazing. You can point your camera in any direction and get a beautiful shot.

I’m sure glad they have those signs cause I forgot where I was.

There is quite a bit more trail after this, but we were getting tired so I didn’t take any more photos. I did however take my HD camcorder with me and I have video of most of the trail. I’ll post that up when I’m done editing. It’s going to take me a while for that.

Looks like you had a great time. I'd love to run that trail someday. Of course, its easier to run the Rubicon when... well, when you got a Rubicon!

I'm still trying to find the time to do this run. Hopefully next year.

Epic photos Braden, looks like you and Nick had a great time. Tell Nick I said his rig looks weak! Haha, I mean bad to the bone.

wow - truly spectacular scenery... How did your Rubi fare, damage-wise, after the bead-pop problem ? Your bud's Jeep is a monster, for sure, but yours looked like it was running the trail with ease as well...looking forward to the video... :D
