OUTDOOR SURVIVAL Net for 11/19/09
Posted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 10:22 pm
This weeks net will cover the subject of outdoor survival. Our guest will be Wes Podboy of the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department SAR operations. Wes is involved in rescue operations on a constant basis and has a wealth of knowledge when it come to survival. We will discuss both how to prepare for trips in the outdoors as well as what to do when troubles arise, especially in wilderness areas. Mike Ward, host of the Rescue Net on the Keller Peak Repeater, will also be our guest. I think that by now everyone is familiar with Mike's credentials when it comes to SAR, and he will be joining Wes for this discussion.
For those who are interested, Wes will also be discussing the pros and cons of emergency rescue devices, such as PLBs and the SPoT.
PS: Excellent net. Wes Podboy's knowledge on the subject of survival in the outdoors is genuinely impressive. Given our limited time, we were able to generally cover some of the more important parts of this subject. Wes has graciously consented to return for follow up nets. We went for about 1 hour and 45 minutes and scored 33 check-ins.
