Well my friend Richard and I decided to take a quick trip to the Santa Rosa Mountain and do the Sawmill Trail. Okay they said rain but who cares, a little rain never stopped a Jeep. So we are going up Hwy 371 passed Anza, and the rain turned to snow at 4200ft. Cool! :D We arrived at the trailhead and disconnected and aired down. Doing some stops to photograph the scenery, buy then the rain and snow were gone on that side of the mountain. So great no dust... As the trail snaked it's way up we started to get rain again, a little rain never stopped a Jeep. So more driving and its gets really cold so the heater turns on (yes my Jeeps heater works). Okay we do not see anything to photograph and it is to cold to get out anyway. The we hit snow just near the top (very cold, stay in Jeep stay warm :D ). So the storm is covering the mountain top can't see anything so down we go... We stop at a turnout where the snow was not so deep and get out for photos and to stretch the legs. So here are the photos... I am thinking of doing this again, yes in snow in January 2010, see how work schedule goes. Will put up an invite.

That is a great trail. I'd love to head up there in the snow, but I gotta get the heater working first!

If you go again in the first week of January, I'd like to join you. Especially if you hit up Upper Coyote Canyon as well.

Yeah! :D It was cold! I am thankful for a good heater in the Jeep. :D The only issue was coming home we were traveling on 371 and I was getting a vibration from the back of the Jeep all the way to my seat and it was load. I thought of my rear driveshaft, sure enough the two spiders on the yoke were worned out or got damaged somehow. Was able to get to a gas station but it was raining so much I did not want to get more wet so I locked front hubs and used the Atlas to disconnect the rear (neutral) and drive home on the front. Of course the rain got worse and it took almost 2 hours to go home. Now I have a new rear half of the driveshaft. It cracked the yoke which was not a DANA Spicer yoke. It was a fabricatied one, the new one is DANA Spicer solid yoke and tube. Tried it out Sunday around town and it is quite! I am ready for Joshua Tree NP on Dec 28th - 31st. :D

My January looks like a TBD. I cannot make any firm commitments. Also need to watch the weather condidtions.
