The route will include Gold Mountain (3N69) and Jacoby Canyon (3N61), the most difficult of these being Gold Mountain. Moderate rock crawling, very steep/loose slopes, severe ruts and some off-camber spots will all be part of this run - rock sliders, bumpers and skid plates, and sway-bar disconnects are highly recommended. Large vehicles should expect heavy pinstriping, and stock vehicles are not recommended.

The second half of the route will explore the Skyline Drive / Clark's Ranch area before crossing back over the Santa Ana towards camp.

Individual trail ratings/info:

Gold Mountain (8235 feet) - Most Difficult, hard hit by the last few winters so lots of new rocks, ruts and shelfs where there used to be good road.

Jacoby Canyon - More Difficult, a few rocky spots, but not much has changed on this trail. Wildflowers were still present on the pre-run.

LOGISTICS:
This approximately 40-mile route will take 6 to 8 hours to complete depending on size of group, vehicle capability, and how long we spend at lunch/picture spots. Bring lunch with you, as we'll be stopping for lunch along the trail. We'll be heading out from camp, and will make a fuel stop on our way over to the first trail. I have not thoroughly explored the Skyline/Clark portion of this trip, so some route-finding may be involved.

Cool. This run looks familiar. Gold Mountain is not that difficult.

I am interested in this run, but have a question: I assume you are going to start at Gold Mountain and work your way back toward the campsite? If so, can I meet you in town or at the trailhead for Gold Mt.? I will be staying in Fawnskin.
thanks...

Sure! I expect we'll be to the trailhead by 09:45, depending on how long the wait is at the gas station (Valero on Greenway Drive / 38 & 18).

I have you added.

Sounds good, see you there (at the trailhead). Thanks.

Be aware that the trail we call 2N93D and/or Lightning Gulch is slated for decommissioning. I don't know when the contractor will be in the area or what their plans are for closure.

Great, our Obamabucks at work ruining the most scenic and least environmentally disturbing trails in your neighborhood in the name of progress.

I guess this may be the last chance to run that peak...
