Hello everyone. New to the forum but not to off roading in California, have been a lot of places in our Tacoma, lead runs all over and go out at least one time a month, lately a lot more. Also I take part in Forest Aid as a Reforestation Supervisor
http://www.forestaid.net/, am currently President of our little off road club and live in North Orange County, CA.

We go all over, Death Valley, The Mojave, Anza Borrego, The Sierras, Calico, up in Big Bear and all, and more. I was in the EL Pasos last weekend. This weekend a more sightseeing sort of trip to the Carrizo Plain. We also do a little easy back packing and odd trips, like we went out to Santa Cruz Island last year .
The truck is more set up as a desert explorer than anything else . . . 2003 Tacoma, 3.4 Supercharged, 7th Injector, all sorts of amour and such . . . Fun!

Welcome to OAUSA, DennisDawg !!
Looks like a very well put together rig you've got...I look forward to hitting the trails with you soon.
I saw on your site mention of HRO - are you a ham ? What's your call ? You'll see that OAUSA is about vehicle dependent outdoor adventures, with an emphasis on amateur radio as a means of communication and safety.
We're having a Meet N' Greet at the HRO in San Diego on April 10, 2010...maybe you can cruise down and join us...also, we have OAUSA Summerfest coming up in June, in Big Bear; we'll be combining off-roading, hiking, and amateur radio Field Day operations into one weekend on the mountain - so, put it on your calendar !!!
Please post up more info on Forest Aid - we are a Tread Lightly group, and many here would be willing to help out on trail and restoration projects.

Dennis:
Welcome aboard.
Our net last week included a discussion of the Carrizo Plain NM. If you get the opportunity, please post up a trip report.

I love San Diego (was stationed there a long time ago), but I am currently scheduled for tree planting near Big Bear on that day.

Interesting. The Big Bear area is a lot of fun! Last year we did “The Whole Bernardino” hitting every open trail of significance from Cleghorn to Rattlesnake Canyon over three days. Our current plan is to do it again in June!

Forest Aid is an effort by The Tree People and The San Bernardino Forest Association to replant trees in the burn areas of San Bernardino National Forest. The effort runs all spring while conditions allow for it. All one need do is sign up and show up. The workday runs from about 9 AM (where you are transported to the planting site) to 1 PM, the work is not hard, kids can even do it and it is a lot of fun. A Reforestation Supervisor will show you how it is done and help you do the work. After you can enjoy the fun in Big Bear!
More details are here:

I started with them last year, volunteering as a Reforestation Supervisor, and I assure you it is fun, family oriented, team building, and more. I very much encourage people and groups to sign up and go!
Bring gloves, snacks, water . . . hardhats, tools and instruction are provided.
