How many divers from San Diego are here? Would anyone be interested in doing some dives?

I know Socal Rubi does a lot of diving. A lot of his pictures from his dives are on the forum.

Mostly free diving these days. 3 kids makes it hard to find the time.

I've been a NAUI instructor for 10 years. I was a bit floored when they sent me the pin this year with my renewal. Made me feel a little old.

I used to do a lot of free diving and spearfishing back in the day. Where abouts do you head out?

I have not been in the water in a while, but I did most of my dives at La Jolla.

Sorry for the late reply. Been away from the computer for a couple of days.

I used to live in Solana Beach (we're moving back in a couple of weeks) so I spent most of my time in North County. Tabletops/Tide Park up to Swami's. The kelp beds right around Pipes, or out in front of Fletcher Cove, usually have some nice sights. If I have the time, I go to LJ, but time is a precious resource these days. I've had a few GWS encounters while in the canyon so I don't head out there solo any more.

I did my check out dive in La Jolla a ,long time ago. My last dive was in Puerto Vallarta. It is funny I just got my new card from NAUI as I am preparing to take a group of kids from our youth programs on the Gold Star dive in Catalina.

I will likely put in some pool dives in the next few weeks as my blood has thinned considerably and cold water is not as easy for me to handle as it was in the past.

Great White Shark?

One of my favorite things to do out at La Jolla while free diving was to bring a bag a peas with me. Open it up and have all the fish come in to feed. Then when the big groupers started coming in to check things out I'd bring out whole squid to hand feed them. They seemed really tame. Oh and the girls loved it!

Scripps Canyon is a known breeding ground for them. I've seen them twice down there. Once was on SCUBA the other on a rebreather. When I was on the rebreather, I was definitely being "checked" out. Some might say stalked but I prefer checked. They're cruising the coast a lot more than we ever know.

A couple of years back, when the guy in Solana Beach was attacked and killed, I had just gotten out of the water not more than a few hundred yards away as they were getting in to start their swim. Fate is definitely fickle.

Not trying to put a downer on anything. Anytime you want to meet up for a free dive, let me know. The water is my home away from home.

Yeah okay, I remember hearing about that. One of the biologist there once told me he had seen a juvenile just off the pier. Most of my time in the water was spent off Blacks Beach. Its been forever since I've been in the water. I'd like to take my wife out this summer when the water warms up and all the sharks come in shallow to breed.
