Figured id get on here and Register after being referred by Willie who came and bought a kayak at my shop this last week.

I may not 100% fit into the style of driving you guys do as I drive a 2wd Long Travel Tacoma however I will eventually have a 4X of some sort. The Taco is locked so it will take me most places I ask it to but I still have the bug for something Solid Axle. If it was easier to do a SAS on my truck it would definitely be that as opposed to the LT set up but it is what it is. My truck is kind of a hybrid as I do rock Sliders, hi-lift, OBA, and winch among other things.

Very interested in all the Expedition stuff yall do as I am a very avid hunter and fishermen and like to get out away from people as much as I can. I recently bought a trailer that I will be making an Expedition/ hunting trailer out of, that is one of the main reasons I have joined this site as I know you all have plenty of ideas on that stuff.

Anyways hoping to take in a lot from you guys and also hopefully I can help as well.

Siebler:

Sounds to me like your activities are just about a perfect match with those popular here.

Your timing is excellent. If you have access to a Ham radio, this weeks net topic is solid axle swaps. We also have a few good expedition trips under our belts and when time permits, you can check out the reports in the Expedition Forum.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to OAUSA !!!

There is no 4WD requirement here, so no worries - your 2WD prerunner fits in just fine. We are about vehicle-dependent outdoor hobbies, not strictly four wheel drive. I'm sure you have stories to tell about your adventures in the Tacoma, so feel free to post them up...

As Dave mentioned, we are involved with many aspects of amateur (ham) radio on OAUSA - many of us are licensed hams, and we are doing are best to recruit as many new faces to this hobby, too. Reliable communications can be the difference between life and death in many remote areas if disaster strikes, as well as a very efficient tool for camp to vehicle, or on the trail communications. If you do not already have your amateur license, we hope you'll scan through our substantial resources on that topic as well, and consider studying for your ham "ticket".

Check out the threads on BorregoFest 2010, and annual event we hold out in Anza Borrego State Park - we always have a great time, and hope you can join us :D

Yeah definitely going to have to look at the Ham stuff. Cant hurt to have. I am currently working on a 100GT Captains License which licenses me in VHF Communication as well. All the radio experience I can get will only help as I apply for a position with CBP in the near future.

Welcome to the forum!!!!

You sure don't need a 4X4 to enjoy all those outdoor activities. I hunted, fished, and explored the back country for years before I got a 4WD.
