The topic for this net was vehicle essentials from the Vehicle Preparation Series. The net lasted 2 hours and we had over 30 check-ins. Due to time constraints and the need to discuss our topics, we were not able to complete the full list of vehicle essentials and will probably continue with this discussion next week. Tom Severin of Badlands Offroad Adventures assisted in this net and his contribution was most helpful. Tom is a certified Wilderness First Responder and his knowledge of outdoor first aid is considerable. Anyone interested in taking one of the very best first aid courses should PM Tom for more details.

As most know, the Keller Peak repeater is the only source for the net at this time. We anticipate that we will have other repeaters available by IRLP very soon. This will greatly expand our coverage and open the opportunity to much of Southern California to participate. Thanks to all who checked-in!

Today, I downloaded the manuls for both my moble and HT radios onto my laptop.
This was one of the many ideas and suggests on last nights net: carry a copy of your radio(s) operating manuals. And a great add-on suggestion was the idea to load a PDF version on your lap top if you regularly take a laptop with you.

I know K6DTK made the suggestion to carry your manuals but I don't remember who suggested to put it on the lap top - But thank you. Great idea!

The same recommendation was made about repair manuals for your vehicle on a prior net.

I thought that the idea of putting various manuals on the laptop was brilliant. To save disc space on my laptop and as a backup, I am putting all of the various manuals, (vehicle, mobile and HT, and GPS) on a flash drive which is kept in the vehicle at all times. That way, if my PC breaks down, I can use another. I am still keeping the paper copies available just in case.

That was me I have pdf manuals for nearly everything electronic that I carry, including Factory Service Manual for my Tacoma, my suspension lift installation instructions, all radios, APRS add-ons to the radios, GPS, Scanner, etc. Has come in handy on several occasions. Is best on an overland trip where carrying all the manuals is not practical or safe for the manuals. Most electronic gadgets have the manual in pdf format on the manufacturer website.
