Yuma Territorial Prison 9/2/10

We have been going to Yuma for many years but never took the time to see the Prison - until this year. In the warmer summer months (120 degrees+) this had to be hell. The dark cell was for the bad boys (and some women too). I understand there weren't many repeat dark cell occupants. The cost is $5.00 and it is a self guided tour. Well worth it to see one of the west's most notorious prisons.

I've been there myself a few times. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be an inmate there. Thanks for the report!

I would think the dark cell would be cooler. I would take the bad people and chain them up out in the yard. That seems like it would be worse. Just saying.

Well.........that is partially true. There would be a few degrees difference between the dark cell and the outside, but certain other conditions apparently made up for this difference. There was no, how shall I say, bathroom facilities in the dark room and from the accounts, the stench was overpowering.

Been there a few times. A nice place to visit and they have an interesting museum. As they say, a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
Regards, Steve

You can make a great trip out of Indian Pass, Black Mtn. and the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge and then down to Yuma to see the Prison. It can be done in a nice weekend and there is plenty to see and do along the way.

Now that does make for a great trip! I know of a few other trails along the river that can be thrown in to make a great weekend getaway, with camping, wheelin', shooting, and fishing!
