The winter months are the ideal time to visit the desert. In the lower deserts the creosote bush and the ocotillo will be just starting to show some bloom in sheltered areas in mid to late January. This week our net will discuss desert destinations. Join us and share some of your favorite locations. We recently discussed Death Valley so will not cover it again in this net.
We had 40 check ins and the net lasted almost 2 hours.

Tom:
No, I don't have them all. It is my understanding as well that they are not printing them anymore. They are still available but the stock is dwindling. Great books!

We have 2 of his books, they're great. Bill was a great explorer in our area. Some of the stuff kind of overlaps in his books from one to another and i've found at least one GPS coord that was incorrect, but other than that... they're great.
Backcountry Adventures books are much better.

We carried the complete line of Backcountry Adventure trail guides at Dirty Parts, but the large guides are currently out of print (we do have a couple of the Arizona, North California, and Utah guides left however).
The smaller, more compact new Trail Edition guides are all in stock. The Backcountry Adventure books were divided into 3 books each, and reduced in physical size and added content, to reduce the cost of production. They do not have a lot of the additional information that was found in the BA books - info about local animals, insects, plants, and historical information. The trail information is the same, and is very comprehensive. The Trail Edition guides are still excellent resources for anyone looking for trails to explore...and they are available for Northern and Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah...
