Let's try and do it soon so that it is still sort of on the cool side and not near the temperature of the surface of the sun.

DTO:
I've done the Burro Schmidt Tunnel (what was he thinking?), and done some runs in that area including Last Chance Canyon and some others. I've also explored an area near there in the Scodie Mountains, which is part of the Sequoia National Forest. Great camping and the road there is, as I recall, a 2WD trail. I'll post some pics of the area later.
I envisioned our first outdoor adventure as a light and easy camping trip, accessible by most 2WD vehicles (even some sedans and mini vans). Since I am most familiar with the East Mojave, I naturally selected it for this outing. As somewhat of an aside, the desert flowers are exceptional this year. I am not, however, fixed on any location, just the need to do the trip. Depending on how many 4WD vehicles will be going, we may have enough room to transport every one for a little 4WD excursion.
The April 25-27 dates work for me. If this thread can generate enough interest, lets make it happen. We should get together for a little trip planning meeting - Buca di Beppo, anyone?

I've been to Cuddieback and that is a good area for all around access.
But I'm up for where ever.
Those dates are good for me right now, but I may need to be back early on Sunday to photograph the AMA Superbike and Supermoto races at California Speedway.

We go to Cuddyback often. Good dry camping free, lots trails of all kinds.

It will be getting warm for a Desert trip soon so how about Monache Meadows in June or is that getting into mosquito and fly season up there?
Another place I've been wanting to see is Laural Lakes up by Mammoth but that would probably present too long of a road trip for most folks in the L.A. or Orange County areas.

Any ideas on dates?
I'm busy June 7-8 and June 21-22 but the rest of June is open.
Perhaps field day would be a good weekend for the first group outing.

Depending on where people are coming from, Kennedy Medows would be nice. I keep hearing how great it is but have not yet been there. Steve

Kennedy Meadows and Monache Meadows are in the same general area. Monache Meadows is back in the the Southern Sierra a little further and it requires driving along unpaved roads with some water crossings and one optional slick rock feature. The road into Kennedy Meadows is paved all the way. At Monache Meadows there is a Forest Service primitive campground a little way past the actual meadow which is situated along the Kern River. The Kern River looks more like a creek at that location.
I've only been in there once and it was only for the day. Perhaps someone more familiar with the are could chime in with more information. I'd be interested to know if there are any good sites near by for some VHF or UHF DXing. The camp ground is down in a hole which makes it nice for camping but not so good for radio operations.
