I am new here on OAUSA, but some of you may know me...

A couple people I know asked me to check out this place.. one in particular said this was a happy place, where one can have a good time. So I thought, do I really need another forum?!, but he assured me I needed this one.

And I know a lot of the names I see posting here, so I thought what the hey, why not... Even though I can't stand phpBB for forum software. :D

So a little bit about me (us, actually, since my wife goes on 99.95% of the runs I go on)... Currently, I work in sales at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks and Mortuaries (mums on the jokes, the pay is joke enough already), but I'm looking at some other options right now, one that could move me out of LA and into San Diego County. I lived in Valley Center at one time, and I really liked it down there, so it would be nice if that opportunity pans out, and I get to live down there again. So hit me up for all your pre-planned Funeral and Cemetery needs before I split! haha!

My wife and I love to camp in out of the way places in small groups, but I'm also discovering we like the big group stuff too, like TacoDoc's Rendezvous outtings.

We drive a 1999 4Runner 4WD with a bit of a lift, and our OasisII rooftop tent. Pretty basic setup, nothing extreme.

Places we've camped and enjoy returning to:
Anza Borrego
Big Bear
Fort Irwin area
Barstow area
Baker area

We'd like to camp in these places:
Toroweep, North Rim of the Grand Canyon (sometime in 2012, maybe?)
Beach camping, away from the traditional style camp zones (glorified overnight parking spaces) but have no idea where that's "allowed" in CA...
River camping - again, no idea where to start planning for one of these
Lake camping - once more, no idea where to start the planning stages (Lake Powell, Lake Mead)

So that's all I can fit in a nutshell... Feel free to ask about anything I left out...

Welcome Mitch.

You are the second WTF Ham we have here. Must be a popular suffix.

Speaking of "big group camping", you might want to check out Borrego Fest on the weekend of the 21st through the 23rd.

I know quite a few areas around the Colorado River.

I've been watching the Borrego Fest thing.. That would be easier if we were already living down there, but we're going to Tacovendor's EXPOberfest this coming weekend (details on ExPo)... I don't think I could pull off two long haul trips in one month.

From one newb to another welcome!

I think I may have met you and your wife at the Desert Rendezvous earlier this year put on by Expo Portal.

Sure. Try these to get you started.

N33 24.34' W114 42.34'
N33 01.75' W114 38.26'
N32 58.14' W114 29.81'

Look up info on Cibola Lake, Walters Camp, Picacho State Recreation Area, Martinez Lake, and Ferguson Lake. All great areas to camp and fish along the river.
